Pate’s Grammar School, located in Cheltenham, is a high-achieving, selective state grammar school with over 1,200 students. Renowned for its academic excellence and forward-thinking approach, Pate’s is committed to supporting teachers with the right tools to manage administration efficiently and focus on student success.
In 2023, Pate’s Grammar School adopted SIMS Next Gen to simplify administrative processes, reduce staff workload, and improve productivity. We spoke with Geoff Worth, Assistant Headteacher, who leads the school’s digital strategy and has been instrumental in the transition to cloud-based solutions.
With a growing need for flexible, cloud-based solutions, Pate’s sought to enable seamless remote access for staff and centralise student information. The school’s previous systems required manual data entry and reconciliation, which was time-consuming and inefficient, especially during busy periods like exam season.
“SIMS Next Gen offered the opportunity to bring our systems in line with other cloud-based tools, ensuring staff could work efficiently from anywhere.”
— Geoff Worth, Assistant Headteacher
Pate’s Grammar School implemented SIMS Next Gen, including modules such as Class View, My Markbook, Seating Plans, and Attendance Reporting. These tools empower staff to manage classroom activities, streamline reporting, and ensure seamless access to student information both on-site and remotely.
“I’ve been fortunate to see the product evolve, and it’s exciting to witness how these tools are transforming the way we work.”
— Geoff Worth
The move to a cloud-based platform means staff can access key information and complete tasks remotely. My Markbook has streamlined reporting processes, particularly during end-of-year assessments. Seating Plans allow teachers to visualise class layouts and adjust seating arrangements easily, even for cover lessons.
“When I covered a Year 9 geography class, I could pull up the seating plan instantly. The students saw their usual setup, which made the transition seamless—even though I didn’t know the group at all.”
— Geoff Worth
Single sign-on integration with Microsoft has simplified onboarding, and the system’s reliability has maintained staff confidence.
Since adopting SIMS Next Gen, Pate’s Grammar School has experienced:
“Staff can work live from home, see all the relevant data, and complete their tasks far more efficiently than before.”
— Geoff Worth
“It encourages staff to think strategically about seating arrangements, which ultimately improves teaching and learning outcomes.”
— Geoff Worth
“The flexibility and efficiency that SIMS Next Gen has brought to our school have been transformational. From streamlining admin tasks to enabling remote working, it’s saving us time and helping staff focus on what truly matters—teaching and supporting our students.”
— Geoff Worth
