Medstead Primary School is a one-form entry school in Hampshire, serving children aged 4–11. With a strong commitment to fostering independent reading, the school wanted a library platform that could engage pupils, simplify administration, and support staff in promoting literacy across the curriculum.
We spoke with Carol White, School Librarian, about how Reading Cloud transformed the way students interact with books and how staff manage the library.
The school’s previous system was outdated and lacked the functionality needed to support modern library use. Carol needed a solution that could engage young readers, allow staff to track borrowing and reading habits, and reduce the time spent on manual admin.
“We had a basic system, but it didn’t inspire the children or give us the tools we needed to manage the library effectively.”
— Carol White, School Librarian
Reading Cloud was introduced to provide a more interactive and efficient experience. Carol worked with the Customer Success Team to configure the platform for Medstead’s needs, focusing on pupil engagement and ease of use.
The school now uses Reading Lists to support curriculum topics and seasonal themes, student avatars to personalise the experience, and the custom homepage to showcase new arrivals and pupil reviews. MIS integration ensures student data is accurate and up to date, while LinksPlus provides access to trusted online resources.
“The children love logging in, seeing their avatars, and finding books that match their interests. It’s made the library feel alive.”
— Carol White, School Librarian
Pupil engagement: Children are more motivated to explore the library, leave reviews, and recommend books to friends.
Staff efficiency: Borrowing is tracked automatically, and student data syncs seamlessly with the school’s MIS.
Curriculum alignment: Reading Lists support classroom learning and seasonal events, making the library an extension of the classroom.
Reading culture: The library is now a vibrant, student-led space that supports both academic and personal growth.
“Reading Cloud has made the library a place children want to be—not just somewhere they have to go.”
— Carol White, School Librarian
Medstead Primary School has transformed its library into a dynamic, student-centred space. With Reading Cloud, staff have the tools to manage resources efficiently, and pupils have a platform that makes reading personal, purposeful, and fun.
To ignite a love of reading in your school community, you need more than a basic library system. Reading Cloud unites students, staff, and parents, empowering schools to foster independent learning and build a vibrant reading culture with easy-to-use tools.
