Denla British School is a premium international school in Bangkok, Thailand, offering a British curriculum to students aged 2–18. With a newly built library and a growing student body, the school needed a platform that could support reading engagement from day one—across multiple languages, age groups, and curriculum strands.
We spoke with Sarah McElvaney, Head Librarian, and Robelle Dela Cruz, Library Assistant, about how Reading Cloud helped establish a reading culture and streamline library operations from the ground up.
Denla’s library was brand new, with no inherited infrastructure or processes. Sarah and Robelle needed a solution that could support cataloguing, student engagement, and staff collaboration—while being intuitive enough for a diverse international team.
“We were starting from scratch. I needed something that would help us build a reading culture and make the library a central part of school life.”
— Sarah McElvaney, Head Librarian
“We had to learn everything from the beginning—how to catalogue, how to manage student accounts, how to make the library accessible and exciting.”
— Robelle Dela Cruz, Library Assistant
Education-first design: Reading Cloud was selected for its intuitive interface and adaptability to school-specific needs. Sarah worked closely with the Customer Success Team to configure the platform for Denla’s goals, while Robelle focused on day-to-day implementation and student interaction.
Reading lists: Curated by staff and students to support curriculum and personal interests.
Custom homepage: Designed to reflect the school’s identity and showcase new titles, student reviews, and curated shelves.
MIS integration via Wonde: Ensured student data was always up to date, reducing manual admin.
LinksPlus: Provided access to thousands of trusted resources, supporting independent research and discovery.
Support and training: One-to-one sessions, webinars, and responsive troubleshooting helped both Sarah and Robelle gain confidence quickly.
“The support has been brilliant. I’ve had one-to-one sessions, webinars, and quick responses whenever I’ve needed help.”
— Sarah McElvaney, Head Librarian
“Reading Cloud is very easy to use. I can help students find books, check their reading history, and recommend titles based on what they’ve enjoyed.”
— Robelle Dela Cruz, Library Assistant
Student engagement: Students explore the catalogue independently, contribute to Reading Lists, and interact with their avatars. Younger learners are especially drawn to the visual interface and personalised features.
Staff collaboration: Teachers use Reading Cloud to recommend books, track reading habits, and align resources with classroom topics. The library is now embedded into curriculum planning and pastoral support.
Operational efficiency: The library is fully catalogued, searchable, and accessible across the school. MIS integration has streamlined enrolment and account management.
Cultural shift: Reading Cloud helped position the library as a central hub for learning and exploration. Students now see reading as part of their identity—not just a school requirement.
“Students love seeing their avatars and checking what their friends are reading. It’s made the library more fun and interactive.”
— Robelle Dela Cruz, Library Assistant
“Reading Cloud has helped us create a library that’s not just functional—but inspiring.”
— Sarah McElvaney, Head Librarian
Denla British School has built a thriving reading culture from the ground up. With Reading Cloud as its foundation—and with Sarah and Robelle leading the way—the library is now a dynamic space for exploration, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
To ignite a love of reading in your school community, you need more than a basic library system. Reading Cloud unites students, staff, and parents, empowering schools to foster independent learning and build a vibrant reading culture with easy-to-use tools.
